FAQ

  1. What is the denomination and mission statement of the WVCAC?
West Valley Christian Alliance Church is a part of the movement of the Christian and Missionary Alliance. We embrace the entire statement of faith of the denomination and its structure and polity. We proclaim Jesus Christ as our Savior, Sanctifier, Healer, and Coming King. We hold fast to the conviction that the Bible is the inspired word of God (II Timothy 3:16). Everyone who believes and receives the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross will be saved. All believers are to pursue sanctification with others in the church, being filled with the Holy Spirit, and living out the divine will of the Lord on each person.

  2. What is the name and how does it came about?
Our register name is 'West Valley Christian Alliance Church'. Our vision is to establish a lighthouse of gospel on the West Side of San Jose where there is not an existing Cantonese speaking church. The Chinese name is a temporary name until a more appropriate one to be determined by our founding members.

  3. What is the governing body? What is the composition, how is it formed?
The initial planning committee is appointed by Pastor Fung. The responsibility of the planning committee is to plan and execute the various aspect regarding the starting of the new church. The planning committee will be dissolved once a temporary board is formed. The governing body is composed of a temporary board with a term of six months duration from July 01 till Dec 31 2002. The board consists of major functional ministry coordinators with the senior Pastor as the chairperson. The composition is as follows:

    Chairperson:
    Ministry Council:
    Prayer
    Fellowship
    Worship
    Christian Education
    Youth
    Children
    Administrative Council:
    Facility
    Communication
    Finance

This temporary board will function until there are at least twenty-five (25)-founding members, so as to be accredited by C&MA as an independent church. After that, through election by the founding members, a formal board will be formed to administer various ministries in the church.

  4. Is Willow Glen the permanent address of WVCAC? How many groups are using this facility? What is the relationship among them?
Due to the fact that the Willow Glen Anglo church has less than twenty-five members, the right of usage to the church has returned to the C&MA District. The plan of the C&MA District is to re-establish a new Anglo church by hiring a new English pastor. At the same time, the District is also willing to fully utilize the facility by starting a new Chinese Alliance church. Under the term of the initial contract with the C&MA District, we are one of the tenants utilizing the facility here at Willow Glen. The monthly rent would apply to renovation and maintenance of the building. The long-term plan would be moving to the West Side of the San Jose area. It would be up to Our Lord's guidance as to build our own church or acquire an existing church or remodel available building on the West Side of San Jose.

There are now three different groups gather in the Willow Glen church. They are Youth for Christ, Korean Church and the Anglo Willow Glen Neighborhood Church. Including WVCAC, there'll be a total of 4 groups utilizing the premises. We are all tenants and the District is responsible to facilitate the usage of the facility.

  5. Other than Cantonese congregation, will there be any other language group?
We are planning to have English worship service in the near future to meet the needs of our youth. As for Mandarin service, we'll take into consideration as needs arise.

  6. What is the direction of WVCAC?
The mission of West Valley Christian Alliance Church is to fulfill the Great Commission of the Lord (Matthew 28:19-20), to go and make disciples of all nations, to baptize them, and to teach them to obey everything that the Lord has commanded. Our mission is also to encourage all to become witnesses of the Lord so the gospel may be preached to the ends of the earth, that the glorious hope of the second coming of Christ may be fulfilled (Matthew 24:14).

  7. What is WVCAC's position on spiritual gifts and the work of the Holy Spirit?
Believers are exhorted to seek a balance between the objective truth in the Bible and the subjective feeling of the Holy Spirit in the experience. We rely, on one hand, the Scripture to test the reality of the movement of the Holy Spirit; and, on the other hand, we also seek to understand and apply the truth in the Bible through our reliance on the power of the Holy Spirit. We affirm that different people are given different spiritual gifts by God (I Corinthians 12:4). Therefore, we will not give undue emphases on certain gifts over others. Spiritual gifts are not given or practiced to show off the person. Rather, they are used to serve and build up others so that, through complementing and caring for each other, the saints may become perfect, maintaining the unity of the Spirit (Ephesians 4:3). As a result, the blessing of God would abound evermore.

Our pursuit for the power of the Holy Spirit can be summarized into the following four aspects:

    • The power of the Spirit that convicts man of his sins, to repent and be born again in the Spirit.
    • The power of the Spirit that helps us turn away from our sinful ways, lead a holy life, and participate in the sweetness of God's presence.
    • The power of the Spirit that enables us to witness Him in great boldness.
    • The power of the Spirit that maintains unity in His church, so that the world may know that we are His disciples.

  8. What can we expect from our children and youth ministries?
We are committed to the nurturing of the next generation in their reverence of God. Besides activities in the church for the children such as Children's Sunday School, fellowship, and choir, we will assist the parents to become spiritual role-models at home to the upbringing of their children, so that they would not stray from the truth when they grow up (Proverbs 22:6).

  9. How can I become a member of WVCAC?

Those who are born again, be baptized, and abide to the doctrine and faith of the Christian and Missionary Alliance can become a member of WVCAC.
